ZZ Top pulls a real dick move

May 28, 2010 by

There was word last week that ZZ Top had pulled out of their headlining spot at Telluride Blues and Brews and cancelled the rest of their tour in the process. One could only imagine that a sickness or some other sort of horrible news would cause a band to pull out of shows in which they had signed contracts for, right? No, instead they cancelled the dates to accept a part as the opener for Tom Petty during those dates instead. I can’t tell you how much this sucks for everyone involved who was counting on ZZ Top to stick to their contracted obligations. Mousike is looking into this further, but in the meantime, read this article from a Kansas newspaper where ZZ Top pulled out of the State Fair after 1,599 advance tickets had...

Crafting Sounds and Dreams

May 11, 2010 by

Written by Mark Brut For many people, owning a vintage guitar such as an early 20th century Martin acoustic or a 1950’s Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster is a lifelong dream and can require a serious investment.  For others, having a guitar custom built to their exact specifications and desires by a guitar luthier is a far more rewarding and personal experience. The term “luthier” comes from the French word “luth”, and refers to someone who builds or repairs stringed instruments.  Luthiers are not limited to building just guitars.  Any stringed instrument you can think of is fair game, including mandolins, banjos, violins and so forth. So how does one become a luthier?  Many experienced luthiers start by learning to repair instruments.  Others take up the trade as a hobby.  I discovered through...

Fri 3/5: New Mastersounds, Kinetix and Papadosio...

Apr 5, 2010 by

Eagle County continues to have a lot of great music tonight as Kinetix plays at Sandbar in Vail and New Mastersounds and Papadosio play in Avon. The New Mastersounds are being supported by famous offspring Salvador Santana. For band information… Papadosio Some music, because of its originality, timelessness, mass appeal, or perhaps because it is just plain odd, will always be destined for the hallowed halls of cult classicism. No band fits this criteria better than Papadosio. In just 4 years Papadosio has wowed crowds from Denver to NYC, Cleveland to Atlanta, shaking the earth at festivals and clubs alike. Papadosio’s music is all about unexpected combinations. From Rock/House to Jazz/Hop to Dub/Breaks and so on, every song has a unique approach to attaining originality. Long improvisational interludes and vocal harmonies quickly set this...
