ZZ Top pulls a real dick move

May 28, 2010 by

There was word last week that ZZ Top had pulled out of their headlining spot at Telluride Blues and Brews and cancelled the rest of their tour in the process. One could only imagine that a sickness or some other sort of horrible news would cause a band to pull out of shows in which they had signed contracts for, right? No, instead they cancelled the dates to accept a part as the opener for Tom Petty during those dates instead. I can’t tell you how much this sucks for everyone involved who was counting on ZZ Top to stick to their contracted obligations. Mousike is looking into this further, but in the meantime, read this article from a Kansas newspaper where ZZ Top pulled out of the State Fair after 1,599 advance tickets had already been sold to their September show. Ouch!

And after all of this, one would figure that there might be a nice apology note or something on the ZZ Top website that we can print to somewhat alleviate the hard feelings… but no, there isn’t even a mention of this move or the cancelled dates anywhere.

Here’s to hoping that Telluride Blues and Brews, The State of Kansas and all of the rest of the affected parties take legal action and ZZ Top ends up losing big on this decision.
